Nalbind a Simple Project Bag

Nalbind a Simple Project Bag

There are lots of things you can make using nalbinding, but one of the easiest is a bag. It could be a bag for holding small projects or a tablet cover. You can also give it a strap and turn it into a shoulder bag. Even beginners can do it following the steps and videos below.

This bag follows the first three steps from my instructions for making mittens. The same stitch is used here. The video below shows how to get started with the Finnish 2 + 1 stitch.

Once you have the desired length for the foundation row, it is time to turn the stitches so that you can follow the foundation row around, forming a spiral. This same method as in Step 4 of my instructions for making mittens.

If you want a fairly flat bag, you can skip the next step. But if you want a bag that has more of a rectangular bottom, then you can add increase stitches at the corners.

Nalbinding does not have to be done using a single colour. Colour patterns, such as stripes, are also possible. In the next video, you will see how to plan and form stripes in the bag.

Once your bag has reached the desired length (depth? height?) then you may want a way to add a closure or a strap. This final video shows you ways for adding a draw string closure or buttons as well as explains how to form a strap.

I hope you have enjoyed this how-to. These were the first videos I ever made!!

I would love to hear how you liked this how-to and see your projects!
